About Manchester

Manchester on a mapManchester is a popular student destination, home to four universities, with one of the largest student populations in the UK. A vibrant, cosmopolitan city with an unrivalled reputation for access to the arts, heritage, sports and leisure, Manchester provides the ideal environment for living and studying. Living costs are generally more affordable than many other cities, and there is plenty to do, both in and around the city and in the glorious countryside of the nearby Pennines and Lake District.

Getting around

Manchester is easy to get around with a convenient bus, tram and rail network with three major train stations. There is a good system of bike lanes throughout the city and most halls of residence offer safe bike storage facilities. Accommodation offered by all of the universities is close to teaching facilities, so walking is often the cheapest and most convenient option. For those living a little further out there are regular buses to and from all of the university sites with discounted fares and passes for students.

NightlifeManchester at dusk

Manchester is a large exciting city with a wealth of social, cultural, and sporting opportunities.  The nightlife in Manchester is legendary and with a huge student population, pubs, clubs,  bars and restaurants provide regular discounts and offers throughout the week. Most students head for the city centre or the Oxford road corridor where there is a good mix of glitzy bars and traditional pubs. Venues such as the Black Dog Ballroom open noon til 4am, or for a more laid back cafe style venue there are regular late night DJ parties at Eastern Bloc Right in the centre of town the Printworks is a huge food, drink and entertainment complex, and nearby, underneath Piccadilly Station is the world famous Warehouse Project. One of the cheapest student clubbing nights is The Factory, former home of Factory Records, with cheap entry, cheap drinks and three floors of DJs. Most of the pubs, clubs and restaurants are walking distance or a short bus or cab ride from the main student accommodation areas, so getting home after a night out is quick, easy and safe.
